Asam was born and raised in Egypt. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Philosophy from the University of Egypt and a PhD in Theology from the University of Athens. He is known for his vivacious teaching skills and many years of experience in instructing Arabic and Greek to foreigners. Prior to teaching, he held a position in the Egyptian Embassy as a press release officer. Furthermore, there was a time when he was employed as a news analyst in the Kuwait Embassy, along with working as a correspondent for the local Kuwait radio station. Parallel to these occupations, he has been exposed to translating documents from Greek to Arabic and vice-versa. Finally, he worked in the public school system of Egypt as a teacher in the grammar schools.
