Tama was born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan. She studied German Literature at Dokkyo University, and then Sociology and Japanese Literature in West Berlin. Settling in Germany at that time, she collaborated with the Ministry of Tourism and taught the Japanese language at one of Berlin’s top colleges. At this time, she also collaborated with the German Ministry of Education in writing a Japanese-German and German-Japanese dictionary, while at the same time working as an interpreter for several Japanese companies. She has also been a correspondent for a weekly Japanese newspaper and Professor of the Japanese Language at Athens College and the University of Athens. For the last 25 years, Tama and her family have lived in Greece.
