In this section, candidates are tested on their ability to communicate in a university level situation. The following 6 tasks are included in the speaking section:
- Independent Tasks: The first two questions require candidates to express their opinion about a familiar topic. Candidates are given 15 seconds to prepare a 45 second response.
- Integrated Tasks: The next four questions require candidates to express their opinion about a specific topic. More specifically, candidates are asked to read about and listen to a passage about this topic, and then talk about it. You are allowed 30 seconds for preparation and 60 seconds to respond.
For this section, candidates use a headset and microphone. Answers are recorded electronically and are sent to ETS headquarters for evaluation. The entire Speaking exam lasts 20 minutes and is graded on a scale of 0-30.
