What is different about the new TOEFL?The most significant differences in the iBT (internet-based TOEFL) in comparison to the no longer used CBT (computer-based TOEFL) are the following:
- The iBT has a new Speaking section, which includes independent and integrated tasks.
- There is no longer a Structure (grammar) section. Grammar is still tested, but through questions and tasks in each section.
- The Writing section includes an integrated task in addition to the current independent task.
- Tasks are integrated throughout the test. This means that students will be asked to demonstrate their ability to use multiple skills at once, thus making the test more authentic to the realities of university settings.
- Note-taking is allowed throughout the entire test.
- Testing time has been increased from 3.5 hours to 4 hours.
- The test is administered on fixed dates at secure Internet-based test centers, and test results are received through the Internet.

If I need more time to complete a specific section or complete a specific section early, will I be allowed to continue on to another section and then come back to complete the other one? Will I be allowed to correct mistakes if time allows? In the event where a candidate completes a section before the allotted time is up, he/she will be allowed to continue on to the next section. However, the candidate will not be allowed to return to previously completed sections of the test. The only section that allows for revision is the Reading section.
